A Business Partnership Built to Last
Skip Compton has been a Farmers & Merchants Bank customer since he was a teenager when he opened a personal bank account in DeWitt. Satisfied with the customer service, he looked to the bank for support years later when he had the idea to start his own business.
That was the beginning of RedRock Paving in Greenbrier and also the start of a banking relationship that goes beyond financial transactions. It is a partnership built on trust, commitment and a shared vision. “They care a lot about my business and where I am going to be in 5, 10 or 15 years,” Skip said. “They are a big bank with a small-town feel. They have a big heart and are willing to help anybody they can.”
Today, Skip is in his early 50s. His journey as an entrepreneur has been successful. As his business continues to grow, he appreciates the convenience of visiting his local bank and does so every week. “I like being able to talk to somebody in person. They know you by name. You can walk into the bank and ask a quick question. You don’t have a long line.”
His presence is a reflection of the close-knit community we strive to create. Over time, Skip has become not only a valued customer but also a cherished friend to Marlin, a Farmers and Merchants Bank Community President serving Morrilton and the Western market, as well as the rest of the bank staff.
Skip and other business owners know that having a responsive bank is essential to success. When he needs to make a purchase for his business, he relies on Farmers and Merchants Bank for a timely solution. “I can make that phone call and the bank makes everything fast and easy as possible. Sometimes if I don’t make a purchase quickly, I’ll lose what I am trying to get.”
From DeWitt to De Queen, Farmers and Merchants Bank has locations throughout Arkansas to serve customers. As Skip travels frequently for business, he like the bank’s accessibility.
His parents have been customers for over 50 years, and he plans for his family’s relationship with the bank to continue. “My son now has his own account. I’m hoping to keep the tradition going.”
Beyond his business ventures, another cherished part of Skip’s life is his love for Elvis. He hesitates to call himself and Elvis impersonator, but his collection of memorabilia, many trips to Graceland and sideburns prove his dedication. Skip’s passion for Elvis also adds a touch of excitement to the community. When he purchased a black ’68 Cadillac, he drove it to the bank the same day to show everyone.
Skip’s vibrant spirit has further enriched our relationship with him and showcases the diverse interests and personalities that make our customers extraordinary.
